| OTT Qliner Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler | |||||||||||||||||||||||
The OTT Qliner measures flow in rivers and channels. It provides accurate and detailed velocity, discharge and depth information quickly and safely. The OTT Qliner is suited for use in small and large rivers up to 66 feet deep. The OTT Qliner utilizes Doppler technology to measure the vertical velocity profile and an echo sounder to measure water depth at user defined verticals across the river.
The OTT Qliner is a fully enclosed system with the sensor positioned underneath the boat. The fiberglass boat design provides stability in turbulent and/or high velocity currents. The Qliner communicates via Bluetooth with easy-to-use Qliner software hosted on a rugged PDA. The software automatically calculates total discharge and graphically displays velocity, discharge, depth, and signal amplitude for each vertical profile measurement.
The OTT Qliner measures the Doppler Effect to determine water velocity. Sound pulses are transmitted from three ultrasonic transducers. The pulses are then reflected by moving particles in the water column, such as plankton or air bubbles, which are moving at the same rate as the water. The flow velocity is calculated by measuring the frequency shift between the transmitted and received pulses. The OTT Qliner is equipped with 4 beams consisting of 3 ultrasonic transducers and an echo sounder for measuring depth. The ultrasonic sensors emit 3 pings per second and a 3 second average is displayed real-time on the Qliner software.
